ɫAV business honor societies recognized among nation’s best

Published February 05, 2015

Two University of Louisiana at Monroe business honor societies were recognized as being among the best in the country. ɫAV’s chapter of Beta Gamma Sigma— the international honor society for business programs— was recognized as a premier chapter for 2014 and Beta Alpha Psi—an international honor society for financial information professionals—recognized ɫAV’s Eta Sigma Chapter as a Superior Chapter.

Beta Gamma Sigma:
For Beta Gamma Sigma, this recognition places ɫAV’s organization in an elite group. ɫAV’s business programs are among the five percent of over 16,000 business programs that have earned and maintained accreditation from AACSB-International—the premier accreditation agency for business programs in the world.

Because of this recognition, Beta Gamma Sigma will provide a Leadership Scholarship to a ɫAV student.

Beta Gamma Sigma has established more than 525 collegiate chapters in over 20 countries and territories worldwide, and has inducted more than 750,000 outstanding scholars into membership since its inception in 1913. Members currently reside in all 50 United States and more than 160 countries. They serve in corporate, government, non-profit, educational, and other management positions at every level of responsibility.

“Our students’ academic achievement, made possible by our outstanding faculty, has earned ɫAV these great recognitions,” said Dr. Ron Berry, dean of the College of Business and Social Sciences. “We are proud of our students and are very grateful to our faculty who continue to provide a world class business education.”

Beta Alpha Psi:
For the Superior Chapter award, ɫAV’s Beta Alpha Psi chapter excelled in the areas of academics, professionalism, and leadership. Because of this recognition, the chapter will receive a $250 award from KPMG Foundation.

Founded in 1919, Beta Alpha Psi is an honor organization for financial information students and professionals. There are over 300 chapters on college and university campuses with over 300,000 members initiated since Beta Alpha Psi's formation.

Berry continued, “We are especially thankful to Mrs. Patti Roshto, Instructor of Accounting, who has played a critical role in both of these organizations, serving as adviser to Beta Alpha Psi and secretary to Beta Gamma Sigma for many years. These recognitions would not be possible without her leadership and support.”
