Dr. Ralph Brown, associate professor of history at the University of Louisiana at
Monroe, will present 鈥淗eroes of World War II鈥� at the Louise Williams Branch of the
Ouachita Parish Public Library, at 12:30 p.m., on Thursday, July 16.
Brown will examine the background and context of WWII (1939-1945) and he will explore
the reasons why the United States became involved in the war in Europe and in the
Pacific.
In addition, Brown will highlight the activities of two American combatants, U.S.
Army Lieutenant Paul Fussell, and U.S. Marine Infantryman Eugene Sledge.
Brown previously presented a World War I lecture in Lincoln Parish as part of the
100th anniversary of what would be called 鈥淭he World鈥檚 First Great World War.鈥� Brown
discussed the circumstances and situations that lead to the conflict.
Brown earned both a B.A., and M.A., from James Madison University, and a Ph.D. from
the University of Tennessee-Knoxville.
