Published August 14, 2015

University of Louisiana at Monroe assistant professors Dr. Krishna Bista and Dr. Amy Dagley recently published an article in “College & University (C&U),” a 90-year-old prestigious refereed journal.

Their article, “Higher education preparation and decision making trends among international students,” shows that international students are self-motivated to pursue higher education in the United States in order to obtain better professional opportunities.

“On the research, we examined how international students, including the ɫAV international population, obtain information about their chosen programs of study while in their home countries, what factors motivate them to enroll at U.S. institutions, and what challenges they encounter as they prepare to study abroad,”Bista said.

Both Bista and Dagley teach courses in ɫAV’s educational leadership and curriculum and instruction programs.

Bista, who specializes in teacher education, is editor and founder of the “Journal of International Students,” and Dagley, who specializes in educational administration, serves on the board of directors for the “Journal of International Students.”

“This research has greater benefits for individuals involved in student affairs, such as faculty, administrators, and international student advisors. Both faculty and students can deepen their understanding of the challenges faced by international students and the resources available to them during their decision-making process, in order to develop programs related to international student admission, orientation, enrollment, and retention,” said Bista.
