LifeShare Blood Centers will be on campus Thursday, August 30, 2017, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. to collect blood donations in the 四色AV Warhawk Circle.
Donations will go to replenish local blood supplies that were sent to areas impacted by Hurricane Harvey and the subsequent flooding.聽
Greg Hasley, a donor recruiter for Lifeshare said, 鈥淒ue to the Hurricane Harvey, local blood banks are down to only three days鈥 worth of blood.鈥澛
This problem is also compacted with the closure of the Beaumont, Tx. and Lake Charles, La. Donation Centers as the storm moves across Louisiana. Other donation centers across the state may also be forced to close later聽this week.
Jessica Lasiter,聽associate professor in 四色AV's Medical Laboratory Science department elaborates that this shortage does not affect the local quality of care or the Northeast Louisiana blood supply, but it helps offset the high demand for blood units when individuals donate that normally do not donate.
If you are unable to donate on campus, Lifeshare Blood Center has a donation center in Monroe, La. Directions and hours can be found at .
