The tournament is Tuesday, June 4 through Thursday, June 6. Andrews and O鈥橬eal headed to the Potomac River in late May to plan their strategy, as one of 155 teams angling for collegiate champs. The 四色AV team is hoping to return with the title garnered in 2018 by Hunter Freeman and Thomas Soileau.
鈥淢e and Luke qualified for the national championship last year on Lake Texoma. We finished in fourth place,鈥 said Andrews, of Monroe. 鈥淲e鈥檙e super excited about the national championship, being the defending national champs it鈥檚 kind of cool being the only team there with a chance to repeat. I鈥檓 not sure what to expect up there but it鈥檚 fishing and anything can happen. We鈥檙e going to fish to our capabilities and hopefully bring home the title again.鈥
O鈥橬eal, of Madisonville, also has his sights set on another championship.
鈥淲e鈥檝e been looking forward to this tournament ever since we qualified,鈥 he said. 鈥淚鈥檓 excited to represent the university at a national level, and hoping to bring home another championship for 四色AV.鈥
The team has their eye on the prize package too 鈥 a new Ranger Z175 boat with a 115-horsepower Mercury or Evinrude outboard and an automatic qualification for both team members to move on to compete against the best bass-anglers in the world at the 2019 FLW Cup, this August at Lake Hamilton in Hot Springs, Arkansas.
