CBSS Symposium

MONROE, LA – The University of Louisiana Monroe will hold the annual premier lecture and seminar series, the College of Business and Social Sciences Symposium, from September 30 - October 3, 2024. The theme for 2024 is “EveryONE Has a Story.” The event will feature keynote speaker Ryan Campbell, a career fair, a cookout, the annual CBSS Brain Bowl, and many speaker sessions covering a wide range of topics.

“We consider the annual symposium our premiere student-focused event where faculty, staff, alumni, community members, and professionals from across the country come to present their journey. The value this brings to our students’ professional growth and development cannot be measured,” said Cathi Hemed, Director of External Initiatives for the College of Business and Social Sciences.

The Keynote will be on Wednesday, October 2, at 11:00 a.m. at Bayou Pointe Event Center. Campbell is known as the youngest solo pilot to fly around the world and was named one of Australia's 50 great explorers. His speech is entitled “What’s Your Pink Cadillac?” and will detail how he overcame burnout, anxiety, and depression after recovering from a paraplegic diagnosis following a plane crash. Through the story of his Elvis-inspired 1960 pink Cadillac, he shares accessible and attainable frameworks that will help improve mental health, fuel performance, and transform culture.

The annual CBSS Brain Bowl takes place on Wednesday, October 2. The Brain Bowl is a CBSS-wide trivia competition with teams representing each School within the College. Each team is made up of three students, one faculty member, and one professional. The competition is open to CBSS students. Students may contact their school director for more information.

CBSS Symposium sessions are free and open to the public. The College of Business and Social Sciences invites anyone who is interested to attend. Click the schedule link below for times and details about each session.
