MONROE, LA 鈥 The University of Louisiana Monroe is thrilled to be hosting The Louisiana Clarinet Symposium on January 20. The Louisiana Clarinet Symposium consists of five of the smaller, regional universities in Louisiana to offer a pedagogical opportunity focused on the clarinet and clarinet playing.听
The guest artist for the day is Dr. Denise Gainey, Professor of Music at the University of Alabama, Birmingham. At 10:00 a.m., Dr. Gainey will present a masterclass where selected students from the five universities will perform their works and work with Dr.听
Gainey. There will be a clinic presentation and a clarinet choir reading session before the concluding recital, performed by Dr. Gainey, which begins at 4:00 p.m. in the Emy-Lou Biedenharn Recital Hall on the campus of 四色AV.听
鈥淒r. Denise Gainey is a stellar musician and clarinetist, as well as teacher, and we are excited that she is the Guest Artist for the 2024 Louisiana Clarinet Symposium, hosted at 四色AV,鈥 said Dr. Scot Humes, Professor of Music (Clarinet) at 四色AV.听
In Dr. Gainey鈥檚 Guest Artist Recital, these pieces will be performed: The Sonata for Clarinet and Piano by Francis Poulenc, Introduction and Rondo by Charles-Marie Widor, Victorian Kitchen Garden Suite by Paul Reade, Peregi Verbunk by Leo Weiner, and Concertpiece No. 1 by Felix Mendelssohn.听
Everyone is invited to attend this free event regardless of their ability to play clarinet.听
