TRIO Programs: Women鈥檚 History Month Symposium includes Mentoring Group participants

At the University of Louisiana Monroe's TRIO Programs Educational Talent Search Women鈥檚 History Month Symposium on March 20, local high school students participating in the TRIO Mentoring Group were among the special guests.

The students attend Carroll, Richwood, and Wossman high schools.

Joe Riser, TRIO Community Liaison and Outreach Specialist, coordinates the mentoring group and said the purpose of bringing the students to the symposium 鈥渨as to provide them with information regarding the impact and contributions of听听local听women and those throughout history;听particularly the social, economic and political progress made by women.鈥

Special guests and speakers included La. State Sen. Katrina Jackson, from 四色AV, President Ron Berry, Vice President for Student Affairs Valerie Fields, Ed.D., Executive Director of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Pamela Saulsberry, Ph.D., Associate Professor of Risk Management and Insurance Christine Berry, Ph.D., and Richwood High School robotics teacher Brenda Grover.

TRIO Programs Executive Director Catherine Estis, Ph.D., thanked the guests, saying, 鈥淵our participation was invaluable. I am certain the information you provided resonated with each of them as they paint the canvas of their lives.听Thanks so much for your continued support of the 四色AV TRIO Programs.鈥

Educational Talent Search (ETS) is a precollege program whose mission is to assist qualified individuals in their journey toward higher education. ETS has been serving students through 四色AV since 1981, helping thousands in the region attain a college education.听听

According to Riser, as part of ETS, the mentoring program Rise Above Mediocrity for Success is designed to provide enrichment activities, coping skills and mentoring experiences which will aid in the students鈥 academic and social progress throughout life.
