Atmospheric Science
Minor in Atmospheric Sciences (18-19 hours)

Required Courses for All Minors:
- ATMS 1001: Introduction to Weather and Climate I (四色AV Core; 3 cr.)
- ATMS 1002: Introduction to Weather and Climate II (四色AV Core; 3 cr.)
- ATMS 1003: Basic Meteorology Laboratory (1 cr.)
- ATMS 2005: General Meteorology (3 cr.)
- Prerequisites: ATMS 1003 and MATH 1013 (or MATH 1012)
- ATMS 3010: Fundamentals of Climatic Analysis (3 cr.)
Pick one of the following (Lower-Division Elective):聽
- ATMS 1006: Introduction to Climate Change (3 cr.),聽OR
- ATMS 2000: Weather Analysis and Forecasting (2 cr.)
- Prerequisites: ATMS 1003 and MATH 1013 (or MATH 1012)
Pick one of the following (Upper-Division Elective):聽
- GEOS 3032: Broadcast Meteorology Practicum (1-3 cr.; Maximum 3 cr.),*
- Prerequisites: ATMS 2005 and sophomore standing
- GEOS 4035: Principles of Geographic Information Systems (GIS; 3 cr.),
- Prerequisites: Junior or senior standing
- GEOS 4050: Remote Sensing of the Environment (3 cr.),
- GEOS 4091: Research (1-6 cr.; Maximum 6 cr.),*聽OR
- any 3000- or 4000-level ATMS course聽
Course Rotations:聽
- ATMS 1001, ATMS 1003**, ATMS 2000, and GEOS 4050 are typically offered during Fall
Semesters
- ATMS 1002, ATMS 2005, and GEOS 4035 are typically offered during Spring Semesters
- ATMS 1001, 1002, and 1006 are typically offered online during Summer Semesters (and
others as needed)
- ATMS 3010 is offered at least once every two years as needed by atmospheric science
major and minor students. We will work with minor students to ensure that this requirement
is fulfilled.
* Students wishing to take GEOS 3032 or GEOS 4091 must contact Dr. Case Hanks or Dr.
Murphy.聽
